MIT Dean Marilee Jones Resigns Amid False Credentials Scandal

The school announced Thursday that Jones had resigned after acknowledging she had misrepresented her education when she started working at the university 28 years ago, and declined to correct multiple incorrect claims since then.

Looks like it wasn't just a few mudane details:

She falsely bolstered her credentials to get a job with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and over the course of her career claimed to have earned degrees from three schools. MIT officials say now they have no evidence she ever graduated from college at all.

1 Well, damn! If it takes 28 years for them to figure this out, heck I'll be retired by then and can forgo the time and expense of finishing my degree. Who knew it was this easy?

3 Whoever hired her, if still around, needs to go to. Someone is subposed to check these things out. It does show that academic meatheads don't have to know anything to be considered the best by other academic meatheads. Who don't know shit from shinola either. Hell even a barber has his credentials on the wall. My sheepskin hangs in my office next to my football pictures. Thank God for football. The only reason to attend school today. You can learn more from the internet than from a self absorbed academic meathead who couldn't hack it in a competitive enviroment..

I don't approve of her lying, but as a psychological point she may have encouraged less group-think among the students she affected. part of the article suggests this may be the case. Not being indoctrinated herself, it would be interesting to do a head to head comparison with what were thought to be her 'peers'.

She was something different than the school administators that behave like religious zealots. All saying and doing the same boring thing.

A few years ago there was a Navy Admiral who worked in way up from the enlisted ranks to the absolulely top. Problem was most of the awards and metals he earned were bullshit. He was finally caught he killed himself. His lack of Military education, I believe, make him stand out above the normal run of the mill academy grad. He was everyones and I mean everyones absolutely favorite commadant. But alas, he lied, so he died. There is apparently an advantage to not being brainwashed by academia. Perhaps academia should go back to teaching instead of politics. Perhaps political bullshit shouldn't be allowed on the college campus in any form.
