ABC's Brian Ross Adding "Context" to VT Shooting

Robert Stacy McCain, writing over at the Washington Times, notes that ABC's Brian Ross, who usually has excellent terrorism scoops, is already adding "context" to the Virginia Tech shooting. That "context" is that the shooting comes several years after Congress let the assault rifle ban lapse. See how adding that "context" leads the readers to "draw their own conclusions"? McCain writes:

But how about the minor detail that this “news” might be completely irrelevant to the crime?

A newsman’s job is to report the facts first.

Context. You'd expect the Brady people to try to add their context, but would hope that neutral reporters wouldn't.

Here's a bit of my own context. The VT shootings come on the heels of the Virginia legislature exempting university campuses from recent changes in the law which make it easier to carry concealed weapons. Experts agree that no student was legally armed and prepared to defend themselves or their classmates from the psycopathic killer.

I add context. You draw your own conclusions.

1 Leftard "context" is nothing but agenda and that's why, as in this case, it rarely makes any sense at all to the facts at hand.

2 This is not about more gun control , it is about the effects of gun control.

3 But what about the Meta-Narrative, huh? Guns used to kill people. Guns bad. Poor misunderstood immigrant guy caught up in American cowboy culture. DON'T YOU SEE!?! It's Bushitlerburton's "withusoragainstuswantedeadoralive" talk...

You fools.

4 Haven't they said that the firearms used to kill were pistols, and therefore unrelated to "assault weapons"?

5 Heh... how about identifying him before ascribing motives to him, or placing his actions in 'context'.

6 no no Richard. A pistol was a weapon that was used in an assault. Therefore is an "assault weapon." Plus, it had a somewhat automated firing mechanism, therefore it is an "automatic assault weapon, with a pistol grip and short barrel."

Now, back to congress to ban all "automatic assault weapons with a pistol grip and short barrel"

7 by the anti-gun/"gun control" crowd's logic,

all we need to do to have iraq become peaceful is get the iraqi legislature to pass restrictive gin control laws!

and withdraw, of course!

jerks.

fact: only law-abiding folks will ever disarm via "gun-laws."

fact: law-breakers and psychotics like the perp of this horrific and ghastly and horrifyingly sad attack in VA need to be stopped with lead.

9 Over and over again, there is only one thing that stops these evil rampages: the arrival of men with guns.

10 Brian Ross is just another liberal/communist blathering on in an attempt to disarm honest law abiding citizens so that when the time comes his communist buddies can seize control of America and the general population will be unable to do anything about it. The vast majority of America’s gun laws are already unconstitutional.

11 Well, it's clear that VT is sending their students into the classroom without the proper equipment - body armor!

I think the state of Virginia should defund their universities until all students, instructors, and staff are issued state-of-the-art protective clothing. Such clothing would, of course, have the appropriate camouflage patterns which would help the cowering victim, er, I mean, student, blend in with the classroom or lab when cornered by some gun wielding lunatic. In fact, such a program needs to built out down to the pre-school and primary school levels.

Additionally, all classrooms should be fitted with fast-closing, bullet-proof doors, controlled from the inside...unless that's where the gunman is, in which case the controls should be in the hallway. And campus buses should be converted to armored personnel carriers in case of IED's.

The long-term solution, of course, is for each student to be individually locked into steel- & concrete-lined dorm rooms for four years and receive all instruction via closed circuit TV. If there's no exposure, there's no danger.

The perp didn't use an assault weapon, so the lapsed ban is moot. However, there was a total ban on all kinds of firearms on campus which made students feel safe.
