Brad Pitt: Bad Gay

As you know, there is good gay and bad gay. An Angelina Jolie cameo on The L Word is good gay. Any gay with Brad Pitt in it is bad gay. Via Ace of Spades comes word that Brad Pitt desperately wants a gay role, presumably so he can up his Hollywood legits as a 'serious actor'. But if Brad Pitt has never played a gay cowboy eating pudding, what the hell was that Troy movie I just rented?

1 I thought Brad Pitt was pretty gay when he played Jeffery in the 12 Monkeys

6 I just went back to check the jawa archives to see the comments that were made about Brokeback Mountain. I was quite surprised at the volume, around 65 comments. Anyone interested in going back and seeing what they wrote way back 7 weeks ago ? I tried to put in a hot link showing up to date grosses but refused to accept it, so you will have to google it yourselves but that movie seems to have now grossed 3-4 times its cost. Rusty what has been the highest number of comments recorded ? How does 65 comments rank ? Is the ad revenue correlated to the number of comments and hits ?

7 Well, he can sign up for the sequel to Brokeback Mountain - "Brokeback Mountain 2: Pyroclastic Flows"

You do realize if your going to try and impress people or make some kind of point with numbers - well, er - your actually going to have to show the numbers. I know - its the lil' things in life that are annoying.

Do you realize how dumb you just came off? No? Ok.

You like Brokeback Mountain - fine - buy the DVD.

If your trying to say there is a hugh market throughout Mainstream America for gay love movies ... say it. You rally behind the strangest things - that's for sure.

9 Speaking of numbers, I wonder how much revenue the "Passion of the Christ" generated and how many times revenue from that movie exceeded costs. Just curious. I don't know how many comments "Passion of the Christ" elicited, but suffice it to say it doesn't matter.

10 Ryan -- BBM cost about $14 million, guesstimate for the marketing is about $30-40 million (ads are still running since the studio is going all out for Oscar time), giving a total of costs around the neighborhood of $44 million to $54 million. Give or take. STEALTH cost about $30 million to market so I don't think my cost estimate is out of line.

Theatrical box office GROSS is about $50 million or so. First weekend studio keeps 75%; after that only 50% of the gross. So revenues are northwards of $25 million or so. Last time I looked, $44 million is a lot more than $25 million.

MOST indie films lose money. Ultra cheapos like Donnie Darko or Blair Witch with viral marketing (read: nobody spends money for marketing) make money, but not as much as the HUGELY expensive blockbusters that rake in tons. Spider-Man for example probably grossed World Wide a BILLION. Net was considerably less but having Spider-Man made Sony's year; not having a Spider-Man movie made them tank.

Let's get real here for a minute. Getting ANY film out the door, finished, and marketing it so people know it's playing and they should go see it is going to cost you around the neighborhood of $50 million at minimum.

If you are talking $50 million per film, to me that's a mass market product. Hollywood is stupid. They keep making films people don't want to see instead of trying to make the best films they can that people DO want to see.

Nobody wants to see Brad Pitt, PERIOD. That guy bugs (women in Germany apparently love him, but they love Hasselhof so go figure). Much less do we need to see him gay.

11 You mean - he's not gay? In that crowd - how can you tell?

12 Jim Rockford, good analysis. Not that I care if these overblown egos ever make another red cent, but interesting nonetheless.

Jolie is a skank. Yeah, she's pretty, but so is the belladonna flower.

13 I am still waiting for Rusty to tell me if
you have a Hot Lesbo and an Ugly Lesbo if it is a
good gay or bad gay. About 90% of the gay women fall
into this category for me.
