Boycott Indonesia--Stop Murdering Christians Now!

Civil war is in the air in Indonesia. Christians are daily being slaughtered and the government does little to protect them.

Two of our longtime blog-friends, Stan the Infidel and Big White Infidel, are furious over the treatment of Christians in Indonesia. What the media paints as 'sectarian violence' is really Muslim persecution of Christian minorities.

Stan and Big White are headed to Rev. Irianto Kongkoli's funeral in Palu. Rev. Kongkoli was a Christian minister gunned down in public early this morning. This comes on the heels of a bombing on Saturday and after three Christians were executed for their alleged participation in sectarian violence. Violence that has largely targetted Christians and over which no Muslim has been prosecuted.

If their reaction is any gauge of Christian sentiment in Indonesia, then expect an escalation of the violence. Especially pay attention to Stan's extended comments here.

I would urge the Christians of Indonesia, and especially our friends Stan and Big White, towards self-restraint and non-violence. Not that I am a pacifist, I am not, but I am a realist. One should only fight battles if they can win. This is not a battle that can be won through violence.

There is something that you can do to show your solidarity with Indonesia's persecuted Christians. Boycott Indonesia.

Write your Congressman.

Write the Indonesian embassy or call (202) 775 - 5200

Write the consular section of the U.S. embassy, Jakarta.

Next time you're in WalMart, be sure to check that label. Don't buy Indonesian.

I fear that if the international community does not immediately and successfully pressure the Indonesian government to protect its Christian minorities with more than lip service, that serious violence and civil war will erupt. A war with only one possible outcome: increased persecution and the mass killings of Christians.

Indonesia is very sensitive to public criticisms. The government spends a lot of time engaged in propaganda intended to show that country as a shining example of what moderate Islam looks like. So, public pressure may just work in this instance.

Please do what you can to help.

1 Hell, man, this has been going on for years in almost all predominately Muslim countries, including so-called moderate nations like Malaysia and Indonesia. You can just imagine the persecution in places like Iraq, Syria, and Egypt. Voices of the Martyrs has been documenting persecution of Christians for years now, but the West and the liberals don't give a damn about Christians. That's why I can't understand why these Muslims believe that the war in Iraq is a Christian Crusade. Just more of their lies to get their people to further persecute Christians. And as for the West, it will soon be looking for Christians to protect it from the fundamentalist Muslims, but we will all be dead. So there. The West will fail because the liberals and leftists won't fight for it, to them, nothing is worth fighting and dying for. They will learn. The hard way.

2 Another bomb just went off in Poso tonight. No one was injured but this just continues. These aren't Christians with bombs. We're really fed up with it. The only viable solution is an Australian security force like East Timor has. Unbiased. From talking to my brother, he spoke with a bunch of people today and they say it is worse with all the extra security because most of the security (in the form of police and army) are Muslim Javanese who have a definite arrogance of ethnic superiority and dislike Christians. If the conflict erupts again, watch for Laskar Jihad to be brought in from Papua where they are training with the Indonesian army and brutalizing Papuans at the moment. Laskar Jihad, for those of you who don't know, operated training camps in Central Sulawesi for Al-Qaeda. These Al-Qaeda operatives got to practice killing Christians first before being dispatched elsewhere around the world. Laskar Jihad is responsible for the deaths of thousands in Maluku and Sulawesi. I gotta go to sleep now as it's 4:00 am now. We'll have a DSL set-up in Poso when we get there.

Again, Stan and BWI, take care of yourselves.  I am praying for yours and all other Christians in your position.

There is no freedom in Islamic countries especially for religious minorities; I know this first hand.

37 I disagree with the point that they should not fight back. Fight back now and fight back hard. Never surrender, never quit, no mercy, blow up and attack every mosque you see, make them think twice before they want to attack anyone. These animals only understand violence and the gun. It is time to stand up and face it that they are a religion of death. However I do not worry about it that much as I do not have any children. So I will not have to worry about my kids or grandkids praying Jesus and not to some child raping sand pig who wants to live in the 14th century.

40 No problems boycotting Indonesia here, but what do they actually export that can be boycotted, other than prawns, some tropical fruit, and nasi goreng mixes?

42 Garduneh,

In North Sulawesi where we live, we are free but only because it is 95% Christian. It doesn't feel like I'm in Indonesia there. As you move into areas with higher Muslim populations then it feels like a strange country. In Central Sulawesi it is 50/50. This afternoon I bought something to eat and was walking on the street eating when I remembered it is still Ramadan.. We don't even notice Ramadan in NS. I kept eating and no one said anything. The Muslims are scared of us here. I guess when you look like two Smackdown wrestlers it makes sense. And Biggie doesn't help much when he sees a Muslim and yells out "Shalom" to them. And then he'll say some smartass comment to them in Italian. Or he'll see a rooster or chicken on the side of the road by a Muslim and run up to the chicken yelling "Flu Burung" which is bird flu and scare the Muslims. It's pretty funny but I try not to encourage him. Right now he's explaining American football to a group of Indonesians as a repeat of Monday Night Football is on ESPN Asia right now.

Everyone loves the new boycott sign. But some of them raised a good point. Why only boycott Indonesia? Why not every Muslim country? All their products. Anything from a Muslim country. They quite often call for a ban on American products. Boycott Islam! Just a thought

55 Sorry, but don't think this sort of boycott would work.

First, check the label that says "Made in Indonesia." These are as often as not made in China. The country on the label is a common deception in the garment business, a way to get around quotas. This is particularly so for cheaper clothes, and Walmart is complicit in it (as are all low-cost clothing retailers).

Secondly, it is my personal observation that most business in Indonesia is done by non-Muslims, mostly Christians and Chinese Buddhists.

Indonesia is a big trouble spot, but why punish the victims?

Posted by: ghoti at October 17, 2006 05:25 PM (RSbq3)

56

'Shalom' in Indonesia is used by Christians to greet each other. When a Muslim says Wah salami I lick 'em or whatever, I always reply Shalom. They use their Muslim greeting, I use the Christian.

Pim's Ghost, there's an decent size earthquake everyday in Indonesia now. Either God is pissed off with the Muslims or Satan's fartbubbles escape from hell under the ocean here.

Edwin, good stuff !!

Shiva, Dayaks hate the Muslims, especially the Madurese. Were those pictures from Sampit I wonder. I had a bunch of pics about 5 years ago of a lot of heads. One shot had about 10 heads on a table with cigarettes in all the mouths. I've done mission work with the Dayaks in Kalimantan.

60 For any Muslim who could be reading this, I'd like to know what they'd think if a row of seven cruise missiles put a hole in the ground where the Kabaah stood, then the hole was to be filled with pig grease and pig poop dropped from Stealth Bombers. Is there anything in the prophecy of the Kuron or Hadith that would allow this, and, if not, would it destroy your faith in Islam being that Allah is so powerful he could say "Be" and create this entire universe, yet, allow "His House" to be so desecrated by infidels. Maybe not allow, but, unable to stop it? IF that were to happen, would you still feel you'd get virgins if you killed people you felt weren't good Muslims? Just asking.
