They are the worlds largest slave population, and often they are to conditioned to realize it. I hope someday soon they will have a chance to make up their own minds how they want to live. There is an Afgan womens organization (RAWA?) that was trying to get someone to intervene against the taleban before 9-11 even happened. I noticed them about the time the statues were being shelled over there. They are still trying to get the same rights as women in the west. I hope they succeed.

If your curious http://www.rawa.org/ check them out. You may find ammunition to use on the next wise ass who says Islam respects it's women. Actually, I know you will. Real scenes of violence, so be careful there aren't kids in the room.
