What would you say to your captors after months as a prisoner? You'd tell them exactly what they want to hear. Remember, the only video we have of Jill Carroll are two segments taped while she was still a prisoner--under a considerable amount of duress. The second video we have is one taped in the offices of The Islamic Party of Iraq--the political front for the same terrorists who had victimized her!
As I wrote to Allah earlier today:
After devoting considerable time to the subject I've become a bit more
sympathetic to the plight of hostages. Whether or not she was
anti-American to begin with is irrelevant since she was a civilian
operating in a war-zone. Her political views do not change the fact
that her captors are savages operating outside the laws of war. I
think we should give people the benefit of the doubt, especially when
they are victims.
A lot of really slutty chicks get raped, but there's no reason to
bring up that fact right after they've been victimized.
Once she's home if she starts acting like Giuliana Sgrena we'll call
her on it. Until then, my advice to the blogosphere is to have some
class.
So, let's reserve judgement on this one until she is free to speak her mind without fear of retribution.
And thanks to Allah for e-mailing me. I feel like I've finally made it.

Other than the military, where are our heroes? Where is Patrick Henery saying his regrets with a noose around his neck? Do all civilian Americans have to be such ass kissing wimps?
A lib will spit in your face or key your car if he knows there will be no consequences. None seem to summon the courage to call these murders what they are. It’s just not safe.

Does that make what your stating ok, no it does not? NO ONE WHO HAS BEEN RAPED SHOULD BE CALLED SLUTTY ARE ANY OTHER NAME!!

Holly,
it doesn't mean you're a slutty chic just cause you got raped.
It means that even if a slutty chic gets raped she shouldn't be criticized right after the assault. Give it a few weeks, THEN blame her.

Heck, with the timing, maybe she made it as a deal to be released? I mean, it makes a bit of sense. The Butter Knives of Just Vengeance or whatever it is they were called wern't going to go through with the murder, so they wanted to get some propaganda value out of her. Say, make a video critical of the USA and we'll let you go.
I'll give her a few days to recover, gather her thoughts and make a statement. But she definitely does have some explaining to do.
Also, we can with authority question her wisdom. She was naive and foolish to go out into the country without significant protection or even going loaded for bear herself. And she has paid the price for that naivete. While I will wait for the final say on her own, personal thoughts minus-armed-thugs-hovering-over-her, I do not have much confidence in this woman's good sense.

"Oh, and by the way, you know those female Iraqi terrorists we released for Princess Jill? Why have we never done anything like that for the lives of sundry American contractors and soldiers risking their lives over there? But yet we do it for this spoiled brat America-hater from Ann Arbor. Why?"
There's absolutely no proof that those 5 Iraqis were released to help Jill Carrol.
Misha, John of Arrrrgh, Beth, me, and a host of other bloggers have called Schlussel on her asinity before.
If you're looking for class, Rusty, you won't find with her.

I am going by the comments in the article posted by Dr. Shackleford, the one above, even stating slutty chicks get raped is degrading!

Let her wear that damn towel around her head, and I wish the US soldiers would stop putting their lives on the line for Jill carroll and Norman Kember and the rest, and go about killing the enemy, which is their real job.

There doesn't appear to be much of a difference between Stockholm Syndrome and Liberalism. They exhibit almost identical symptoms. So whether Jill Carroll is suffering from one or the other is virtually impossible to tell.

I hear she cares about the Iraqi people! the horror!

If this girl empathized with her assailants we should leave over in Iraq.

Thus if Stockholm Syndrome = mental disorder, then Liberalism = mental disorder

I am willing to wait a while. However, if in a month she hits the road with OCindy bin Sheehan than I say let 'er have it. However, she gets a pass from me.

Or anywhere else on the battlefield of freedom besides behind your keyboard; but the insults are cute.
I'm actually beginning to wonder, especially in light of Rusty's commendable statement today that IM is a liberal troll trying to make y'all look bad.

A story is out there saying Ms. Carroll was threatened upon her release, oh there was something about thugs surrounding her when that last video was produced.
Fred at Real Debate Wisconsin posted some of her previous writings, and none of that was anti-American, ignorant yes blatantly anti-American no.

Somehow I think some of you would say it serves her right for being a liberal. And if that's the case, why don't we just invite all terrorist into our great nation so they can just blow up liberals. Uh oh. Silly me! I did forget this minor detail:
TERRORISTS MAKE NO DISTINCTION BETWEEN CONSERVATIVES AND LIBERALS!

As middle ground, I pray that I am wrong, and will humbly, publicly and happily regret my ungentlemanly and faithless criticisms.
But I doubt it...

The following is a statement released Saturday by The Christian Science Monitor from freed hostage Jill Carroll:
I'm so happy to be free and am looking forward to spending a lot of time with my family. I want to express my deep appreciation to all the people who worked so long and hard for my release. I am humbled by the sympathy and support expressed by so many people during my kidnapping.
In the past few days, the U.S. military and officials have been extremely generous, and I am grateful for their help. Throughout this ordeal, many U.S. agencies have committed themselves to bringing me safely home.
My colleagues at The Christian Science Monitor have worked ceaselessly to secure my release, and worked with security consultants to do so. Many other news organizations, both inside and outside of Iraq, as well as many officials from Iraq and other countries, worked hard to bring about my freedom.
So many people around the world spoke out on my behalf.
Thank you, all of you.
During my last night of captivity, my captors forced me to participate in a propaganda video. They told me I would be released if I cooperated. I was living in a threatening environment, under their control, and I wanted to go home alive. So I agreed.
Things that I was forced to say while captive are now being taken by some as an accurate reflection of my personal views. They are not. The people who kidnapped me and murdered Alan Enwiya are criminals, at best. They robbed Alan of his life and devastated his family. They put me, my family and my friends - all those around the world - who have prayed so fervently for my release - through a horrific experience. I was, and remain, deeply angry with the people who did this.
I also gave a TV interview to the Iraqi Islamic Party shortly after my release. The party had promised me the interview would never be broadcast or aired on television, and they broke their word. At any rate, fearing retribution from my captors, I did not speak freely. Out of fear I said I wasn't threatened. In fact, I was threatened many times.
Also, at least two false statements about me have been widely aired: One, that I refused to travel and cooperate with the U.S. military and two, that I refused to discuss my captivity with U.S. officials. Again, neither statement is true.
I want to be judged as a journalist, not as a hostage. I remain as committed as ever to fairness and accuracy - to discovering the truth - and so I will not engage in polemics. But let me be clear: I abhor all who kidnap and murder civilians, and my captors are clearly guilty of both crimes.
Now, I ask for the time to heal. This has been a taxing 12 weeks for me and for my family. Please allow us some quiet time alone, together.
- Jill Carroll

Um, Brad--I think you mean Nathan Hale, who was hung as a spy by the British. He said, "I regret that I have but one life to give for my country".
Patrick HENRY said, "Give me Liberty or give me Death!" during a legislative meeting.

I’m wrong again, won’t be the last time.
But…she did call me fat first. I was just trying to point out to Angel Flower that sometimes libs say the most hateful(ha) things. Good thing I’m not too sensitive AF.

I too am glad that Ms Carroll is free. I was willing to suspend judgement until she got back and I'm glad I did. I checked out that inane ThinkProgress site and I don't get how they misconstrued John Podhoretz at NRO. His prediction was correct. And what did Jonah Goldberg say to piss them off?
I still think the Lefty blogs discredited themselves more in this by nodding so vigorously at Ms Carroll's staged comments. She had guns to her head...What's their excuse?
