Ayaan Hirsi Ali Brings Down Dutch Government

Repeat after me: Do Not Screw With Ayaan Hirsi Ali.

From the Financial Times:

A dispute over the citizenship of Somali-born Ayaan Hirsi Ali brought down the Dutch government yesterday when D66, the junior member of the centre-right coalition, walked out after demanding the resignation of Rita Verdonk, the hard-line immigration minister. . . .
Six weeks ago Mrs Verdonk threatened to strip Ms Hirsi Ali of her citizenship because she gave a false name and age when she applied for asylum in the Netherlands in 1992. That meant her naturalisation five years later was unlawful, Mrs Verdonk said.

Ms Hirsi Ali resigned her seat with the VVD and brought forward the date of a planned departure to the US, where she has been offered a job with the American Enterprise Institute, a conservative think-tank.

The affair caused international outrage. The Dutch were branded intolerant and the government was accused of expelling Ms Hirsi Ali.

Again, repeat after me: Do Not Screw With Ayaan Hirsi Ali.

1 Ayaan Hirsi Ali has just had an excellent essay published by the UK Times on 1st July in it she argues that the freedoms that the West cherishes are the best defence against Muslim fundamentalists - the most important of these being freedom of speech.

Given the way the US is going the restriction of freedoms upheld by their constitution is yet another way in which Bush is playing into the hands of Bin Laden.

USA you can help the cause by: Closing Guano Bay asap, stop your milatary killing innocent people in Iraq and Afghanistan would not be bad - Oh and maybe listen to toothless old lions when the say bombing the Taleban won't work - we tried it on a couple of occassions in the past without much success. The big stick is only useful when you remember to speak softly first - so do not threaten aid to Nepal while you are at it as at least their revolution is coming to an increasingly peaceful end!

2 We would not have gone to Afghanistan or Iraq if NYC had not been bombed. Of course some payback is due that. You understand that of course. No one I've heard of has even spoke of going to Nepal. I was impressed by the reaction there after the terrorists in one of their most gruesom and barbaric murders beheaded a Nepalize gentlemen. We ran that and called for their release. Your paranoia about that is a bit over reasonalbe. really search the site for Nepal.
