Arrest in JonBenet Ramsey Murder Case

Breaking news! I'd say good news.

From ABC:

An arrest has been made in connection with JonBenet Ramsey murder case, Ramsey family attorney Hal Haddon told ABC News.

The arrest comes nearly 10 years after the 6-year-old girl was found strangled and beaten to death in the basement of her home on the day after Christmas, in a case that shocked the country and that has remained unsolved.

The Associated Press, citing U.S. law enforcement officials, reported that a man was arrested in Thailand in connection with the slaying. Federal officials familiar with the case told the AP on condition of anonymity that the man was being held in Bangkok on unrelated sex charges.

Developing . . . .

In related news, a known pedophile on the Australian National Child Offender Register was reportedly arrested last Friday at a checkpoint along the border between Thailand and Cambodia. Aussie authorities wanted teacher Paul Thompson, 57, on child sex charges.

From ABC.net.au:

Thompson was facing prison in Australia on child sex offences but fled to south-east Asia, where authorities are working to have him deported.

Acting Detective Superintendent Kellie Properjohn says Western Australian police have been liaising with federal authorities to locate Thompson.

Same guy? It's anybody's guess right now.

From a CNN report, the man arrested is a 41-year-old American and a 2nd-grade teacher who was being held on unrelated charges.

[Update 1730 EDT]

Fox News reports the man's name is John Karr. He apparently has been under investigation for a couple months and knew details of the JonBenet murder that were not public knowledge.

2 Very sad. Lesson to be learned: Don't let your children under sixteen wear lipstick or be "models" in the sick, depraved world in which we live.

3 If he is guilty, he will probably get off easy because he is a man.

If the perpetrator was a woman, she'd get the 3rd degree.

5 Thighland is for pedophiles. Go to the midnight market. Amongst the colorful wares, clothes and food there are curtained booths with cryers passing out cards which advertise donkeys getting it on with young babes. Leave the wife and kids at the moonwalk. ( and yourself if you have any decency! ) If you havn't already had your tacos go to the Taco Bell at Pataya. You will see a mural of a dog getting it on with a babe. Bon appetit! When your kids ask " What's that doggie doing daddy? " just say " The doggie is very fond of it's master "  By the way, enjoy your tacos. Everything there tastes like shit! That's because kulongs ( canals ) are everywhere and everything goes into the soup. Bangkok smells like a sewer and it permeates everything. Even the food. Upside? After a week or two you get used to it and don't notice it anymore! The Singha beer helps.  :-o)

6 A teacher. Hmmmm.

7 The garlic prawns are great with the Singha ( a serving for a couple bahts has 6 cloves garlic for each prawn of which there are probably 20. Small prawns, and tasty! Maybe that's why everything is loaded with spices, to cut through the sewer stench and taste so as to keep tourism alive and well?  bon appetiti!   ;-# )

8 John Mark Karr faced life in prison in Thailand. How could he avoid this? By claiming to have murdered JonBenet and have the U.S. government fly him back to the U.S. Karr will be found not to have murdered JonBenet but will admit to other molestations in the U.S. and asked to be tried and serve his life sentence in the U.S. Would you rather spend life in a Thai prison or a U.S. prison?

9 I have been thinking about it, and the dude just doesn't look convincing when he says he did it. Hard to believe otherwise, him being a teacher and all. Something about his body language and his eyes and face just looked like he was fibbing. I suppose it would be nicer to serve a life sentence with air-conditioning, exercise room, spa, cable and internet access ... besides they probably only have tarot cards in Thighland!
