Ansar al Sunna Claims Downing of Blackwater Helicopter

The Army of Ansar al Sunna, a Salafist terror organization in Iraq with ties to al Qaeda, has claimed the downing of a Blackhawk helicopter over Iraq. The U.S. military has confirmed that a helicopter operated by "Blackwater, USA" crashed today in Baghdad and that five civilians were killed.

Along with the claim, the terrorist group posted several pieces of photo identification which they claimed to belong to one of the pilots. We'll go ahead and hold that identification, since the Army of Ansar al Sunna has posted false reports in the past. Other terror organizations have also posted the IDs of supposedly "dead" Americans, when the soldiers were alive and well. I certainly hope this man got out alive.

While Blackwater is hated by some on the Left, it should be remembered that these are Americans providing a critical service to those trying to rebuild the war-torn country: security.

What's unique about this is the sheer speed of the claim. The downing of the helicopter, the posting of the IDs, and claim of responsibility were made on the same day. AP: A helicopter owned by the private security firm Blackwater USA crashed Tuesday in central Baghdad, and five civilians were killed, a U.S. military official said. A senior Iraqi defense official said the aircraft was shot down over a predominantly Sunni neighborhood.

The Iraqi official, who would not allow use of his name because the information had not been made public, said a gunman with a PKC machine gun downed the small helicopter of a private security firm Tuesday afternoon over the heavily Sunni Fadhil neighborhood in north-central Baghdad, where witnesses reported clashes between insurgents and U.S. and Iraqi forces.

There were casualties, the official said, but would give no details.

In Washington, a U.S. military official said Blackwater representatives responded to the crash in central Baghdad, along with American military. The official, who demanded anonymity because the details have not been made public, said the cause of the crash was not known and that it was too early to tell if the crash was linked to the downing Saturday of a U.S. Army helicopter that killed a dozen U.S. troops.

1 among others who are not fond of Blackwater/mercenaries are the
paleocon Right , the Libertarian Right, the Nationalist Buchananite
Right. as for me, I'd like to see 'em working on the Rio Grande
border where they could contribute to a war yet winnable.

2 Excluding the Libertarian Right---which advocates privately contracted Armies (I'm guessing you've never read much libertarian literature?)

You mean, all the assholes?

3 I'm sure these butchers of Blackwater were somehow involoved in the pointless slaughter of innocents, right moonbats?

4 Ummmm Rusty, the vast majority of libertarians oppose US government intervention of any kind in Iraq and the Middle East.
Since Blackwater is operating in tandem with that government,
they do not approve.

The "assholes" like Buchanan, happened to be right in their
pre-war predictions of failure--but you might wish to accuse
them of decisively undermining the war effort along with
Teddie Kennedy rather than the Israel-first neocons and their
big oil allies who botched it up good...

5 Um, Ken, opposing war in Iraq has nothing to do with supporting hired guns.  That's called a non-sequitor.  Libertarians are all for hired guns.  Idiot.  Buchanan opposed the war, but unlike, say, Markos "Kos" Zuniga (who said "screw them" when some other private security contractors were killed), has nothing but profound respect for private security contractors.  And, even in that opposition, has argued forcefully that America should win its wars.

But, now we see your true stripes run through with your "Israeli-first neocon" quip.  Anti-semite.

6 Don't teach logic do you? Yes an individual  libertarian might
under far different circumstances sanction a private mercenary
going to Iraq---if the most unlibertarian Empire was not already
there ordering it around. So when the military exists, a true
libertarian can sanction mercenaries fighting on...any side...

Buchanan has used the same phrases-(Israel -firster,neocon)-so you believe you have an "anti-semite" in favor of winning your war?...when he has already said it can't be won ? (yes, he's inconsistent, due to his former loyalties to Nixonianism-for a "purer Buchanan,"(anti-Empire stance)read Paul Craig Roberts.)
