African Taliban Consolidate Power, World Yawns

And so it continues. The world welcomes the "stability" brought by the African Taliban to Somalia even as terror training camps become more apparent.

You may have heard about the Marines about to call up thousands in the inactive reserves? While the media focuses on these troops being needed for ongoing operations in Iraq, a good number of them will be sent to The Horn of Africa. I'm afraid that many many more will be needed.

CT blog is on a roll today.

1 This is a subject, I hope, is being watched by those in power. Perhaps, all their doing is watching; However, I believe our military is smart enough to already have a plan for this area, and would agree with you on this issue.

2 The fact the USMC has to call up reserves just goes to show you how many of America's young men are really a bunch of pussies. Enjoy hiding away in college. There are still old men like me who are willing to try and do it one more time since you are all too scared.

3 No jooos? [looks around]

yawn.

4 Yawn - me too - its a shithole they are more than welcome to. Just keep a couple of eyes on them, add a few TRPs just in case - and let them rot.

5 Cruise missiles and preditor drones are probably more than enough.

You got it REMF Brother! The last thing we need is thousands of Marines on the beach surrounded by hundreds of thousands of black faces - with their hands out asking for spare change, and when will the electricity, and water
start working again.

Been there, done that, screw them.

7 Going to Africa huh? Well one shit hole is as good as another I suppose. The Marines were there once and kicked ass, perhaps it's time for round two.

P.S. I still have some time left in the IRR so if Uncle Sam calls me back I'll post pictures here.

8 Oh God, another reason for liberal asses to accept a flood of black refugees to our shores. Start hiring welfare check writers. Never enough Marines but always enough welfare check writers.

Ain't that the truth, GR!

10 And cashers Rooster. Shooter I am working my fat but to get back into shape so I can get back in to the service. I figure if I can do enough maybe my son will be allowed to volunteer. I would hate to see a day where he was drafted because not enough young men would volunteer to fight for their country. My only problem is my wife. She is threatening to divorce me. I don't believe her. But then she would be the second woman to fail that test in my life. At least this time I would know what to do. Yes Hondo I was REMF. Thanks again for pointing that out. Perhaps this time around things will be different.

I was a careerist - there's nothing wrong with being a REMF! Everybody's job is important (except CDR's driver) - all that matters is that you were good (damn good) at it!

I had forgotten - did recuiting duty some years back - the Guard & Reserves had a special program for some prior service. Age, physical requirements (within reason) and pulse requirements can be waived for critical tech positions.

Good buddy used it - returned to Navy (Bees) - entry acting grade E5 - pay grade E8 - only secondary requirement was to meet NCO school & trng reqirements within a certain period of time. Then acting grade would be raised accordingly.

Program was not easy - he was a well documented & qualified PE/LS.

You say you were an aviation mechanic - if you have remained in the field (civilian) and have all your certifications and documentation - then they would want you.

Program was discontinued in '90s as part of drawdown - they ended up having to buy out my buddy - kinda funny actually.

Program is back - its obscure - you have to ask and know it - its a sweet deal. Enlisted only - no officers - prior service a must.

You don't want to be a grunt - a 42+ FNG grunt is a liability to everyone - sorry.

Oh - military service has a tendency to destroy marriages - use your head and common sense on this one - you don't have anything to prove to anyone so keep it in perspective.

12 Thanks Hondo, I was more or less joking about being a grunt. I am past that age. I will need to be retrained though since I have not touched a plane in ten years.

My wife says I am a failure as a father if I do this. However, I don't expect her to understand.

I would not enlist as active duty. I would be better served to go in as reserve, and then let Uncle Sam activate me. I know I have nothing to prove. However I do believe I can set an example for others and that is the kind leadership I believe this country is sorely lacking. A few Americans are doing this. It frees up younger folks to deploy and still keeps the rear moving.

Do yourself a favor - partially listen to her - nothing to prove nothing to gain - and too much too lose. I've also worked Family Readiness & Assistance (obviously - unit deployed - I stayed behind). If there's family stress going in - trouble always follows.

Want to do something - to include the wife - Red Cross Volunteer - when a disaster hits, its an incredible ton of work - but incredibly rewarding and even fun! Where do you think theose folks driving those white trucks with crosses come from?

Worked huricane, tornado, snow/ice storm, and WTC alongside them - great people - important job. Katrina experience was an exception - can't pick the quality of your clients.

I plan to hook up with them next year - retired friend E9 does it - field supervisor, logistics etc - he loves it .

14 SeaMonk,

Your life is your own, but you swore an oath to your wife now. Protect her, and your children. Make sure your house has three weeks of food, and water. Teach your children to protect themselves, and take them to the rifle range.

You may yet get your chance here inside this country. The southern border has been wide open for to many years. If it is not the moon god worshippers, it will be some jack off Mexican gang who hate America.

As we get older, it is good to have a women you love, and they love you. Work hard at your marriage.

Good luck to you.

15 Leatherneck is wise in the ways of the World. I would listen to his advice, but I have already taken it.

16 Seemonk: I've been married to the same one forever but my buddy Charlie has gone through 4 wifes and says every time he traded he traded up. Except for age. Then he traded down.
