10 Ways Online Terrorism Affects the Market

Pretty informative column from Jessica Hupp. Not only does she identify major threats coming from cyber terror attacks directed at businesses, she also identifies companies which may profit from the upsurge in attacks by providing added security.

So people get paid to fight cyber terror? Bloody brilliant! And all this time we've been giving it away for free....

Another Radical Imam at Islamic Center of Cleveland

(Cleveland, Ohio) Readers may recall from 2004, the imam of the Islamic Center of Cleveland, Fawaz Damra, was convicted of lying to federal authorities on his citizenship application. Damra failed to disclose his support and fundraising for the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, a recognized terrorist organization. As a consequence, Damra was deported.

This week, the Islamic Center of Cleveland announced that a permanent replacement for Damra has been hired. According to David Briggs of the Plain Dealer:

Imam Ahmed Alzaree, an Egyptian-born cleric who led a mosque in Omaha, Neb., for the past five years until his contract expired in July, will join the Islamic Center of Cleveland Nov. 1, leaders of the mosque said.

They said Alzaree, 37, is a scholar whose strengths include working with young people.

Dr. Jalal Abu-Shaweesh, mosque president, said Alzaree should bring a "great deal of stability" to the Islamic Center.

Alzaree would not confirm his hiring, at one point saying he would not come to Cleveland because a reporter was inquiring about his background.

Interesting. Alzaree won't go to Cleveland because a reporter is asking questions. Which reporter isn't known. However, a query by Tom Blumer of BizzyBlog found a sermon that Alzaree gave at the Omaha Islamic Center in 2003 which contained the following.
“The hour of judgment shall not happen until the Muslims fight the Jews. The Muslims shall kill the Jews to the point that the Jew shall hide behind a big rock or a tree and the rock or tree shall call on the Muslim saying: hey, O Muslim there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him, except the Gharqad tree which will not say, for it is the tree of Jews."
Although there's no indication that Alzaree directly supports terrorism, it appears that he thinks like them.

Additionally, according to Patrick Poole of Ohioans Against Terror, Alzaree laments that Muslims are not receiving the "jizya" tax from non-Muslims as required by the Quran.

One must question Dr. Abu-Shaweesh's definition of a "great deal of stability." Since Alzaree promotes killing Jews and imposing taxes on non-Muslims, there's a great deal of something but it's not stability.

Hot Shilpa Shetty Arrested in India Again for Gere Kiss

shilpa_shetty_bollywood_hot.jpgHot Bollywood actress and former star of the British version of Celebrity Big Brother Shilpa Shetty was arrested once again today for hugging & kissing Richard Gere in public. She was detained by Mumbai while on her way to Germany for the opening of her new musical Miss Bollywood.

Shelpy was eventually let go, but news agencies claim she was detained for some time.

Shilpa Shetty still faces "obscenity" charges in India. So does Richard Gere who has apologized for the row he caused in India for his actions at the AIDS awareness event.

Is India a free country? Well, not exactly. You'll remember that The Jawa Report is banned in India. We're pretty sure the ban is no longer enforced, but it's telling that the largest democracy in the world finds it necessary to censor offensive content.

If Mumbai rings a bell, it's the same city that a series of bombs exploded killing dozens. Just this week police in Mumbai found unexploded nail bombs on the trains once again.

So, you'd think that authorities in Mumbai would have better things to do than detain a hot young actress who's only crime is the bad taste of letting Richard Gere publicly kiss her.

Still, we're hopeful that India is slowly coming to its senses. more...

Stringer Quotes Himself as Witness

A Reuters stringer quotes himself as the eyewitness source claiming Americans fired into a crowd of civilians in Afghanistan today.

To call it a pattern would be an understatement. Remember the Taliban claim that 200-300 civilians had been killed by a NATO air strike which was thoroughly debunked? That story was also written by a "local" trainee.

One other name comes to mind: Adnan Hajj.

Sure there is a benefit to hiring locals, but there is also a cost. That cost is often the truth.

Lot's of other coverage of this. See STACLU or Say Anything for More.

Dr. Esam Omeish Resigns Post

Via Breitbart:

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A member of the state's Commission of Immigration resigned Thursday, a few hours after Gov. Timothy M. Kaine was told about online videos showing the appointee condemning Israel and advocating "the jihad way."

Kaine learned of the videos from a caller to his live monthly radio program and accepted the resignation of Dr. Esam S. Omeish about three hours later.

"Dr. Omeish is a respected physician and community leader, yet I have been made aware of certain statements he has made which concern me," Kaine said in a news release announcing the resignation.

The governor said Omeish resigned because he did not want the controversy to distract from the work of the 20-member commission appointed to study the effects of immigration and federal immigration policies on Virginia.

Rusty was outraged the the day when Dr. Esam Omeish was appointed.
The Muslim American Society wishes to impose sharia law in the United States. Sure, they want to adopt Islamic law peacefully, through democratic means, but I'm sure that will be of little consolation to the first woman stoned to death for adultery or the first cartoonist beheaded for blasphemy.
The video of Omeish is criticizing Israel is here. Note the date it was uploaded to google video 9/11 2006. Not once in the video does he criticize Hizballah for it's deliberate targeting of civilians or its aggressive role in starting the 2006 conflict.

The "undated video" from DC is here.

Ahmed Abdellatif Sherif Mohamed's Youtube Jihad

megaheadvertical.JPGVia Charlotte Observer:

In a 12-minute video posted on YouTube, an Egyptian man wearing a white shirt, khaki pants and rubber gloves explains in Arabic how to turn a toy boat into a bomb.

His name is Ahmed Abdellatif Sherif Mohamed, and last month he was arrested in Goose Creek after authorities found four PVC pipes containing a mixture of potassium nitrate, kitty litter and sugar in his car’s trunk.

Mohamed told FBI agents he made the video to teach “those persons in Arabic countries to defend themselves against the infidels invading their countries,” according to federal court documents released late Tuesday.

Specifically, he told the FBI “the technology which he demonstrated in the tape was to be used against those who fought for the United States.”

What started as a traffic stop for speeding in South Carolina has led to a two-count federal indictment on terrorism-related charges and a multistate mystery investigators still are working to unravel.

So they were not only working on explosive devices. They were part of the online jihadi community. The big question for me is what were they doing in South Carolina to start with? A bit far from Florida for just a Sunday drive eh?

Soros' Pet NASA Global Warming 'Scientist'

James Hansen has made a career of global warming alarmism, complaining that he is being muzzled by the Bush administration (despite his participation in over 1400 interviews).

Hansen's compromise by billionaire George Soros was revealed in a Monday editorial by Investor's Business Daily about Soros' secretive efforts to subvert public policy:

How many people, for instance, know that James Hansen, a man billed as a lonely "NASA whistleblower" standing up to the mighty U.S. government, was really funded by Soros' Open Society Institute , which gave him "legal and media advice"?

That's right, Hansen was packaged for the media by Soros' flagship "philanthropy," by as much as $720,000, most likely under the OSI's "politicization of science" program.

Hansen first sounded the climate change tocsin in 1971, when his computer model predicted a coming ice age.

Report: We Almost Got Zombie bin Laden?

This MSNBC report claims in its headline, "Bin Laden may have just escaped U.S. forces." The only problem? Read the actual story:

One of the officials interviewed by NBC News, a general officer, admitted Tuesday that it was “possible” Bin Laden was at Tora Bora, saying, in fact, "I still don’t know if he was there."
The rest of the article goes on to detail why some in intel thought it was bin Laden, others Zawahiri. The size and make up of the security detail being the key factor in favor of bin Laden.

Color me skeptical. I'll have to disagree with my friends over at WarIntel.

Bin Laden, very unlikey. Zawahiri, maybe. Abu-Yahya Al Libi , bingo.

From what we know from OSINT on al Libi, he is the real military commander of al Qaeda these days. In fact, he's probably the only top al Qaeda leader actually involved in day-to-day operations planning. He's also seen on several videos surrounded by a "posse" of mujahideen, who I gather are his body guards.

So, if a senior commander surrounded by foreign body guards was going to cross the border in to Pakistan to coordinate with regional commanders, my best guess would be that it was al Libi, and not Zawahiri.

This doesn't rule out the possibility that it was Zawahiri, or even bin Laden. There's no reason to think Zawahiri is surrounded by more bodyguards these days then he used to be--especially if bin Laden is dead or no longer in the region.

Taliban Spokesman Arrested in Afghanistan *Bumped*

A bad day for Taliban mouthpiece Yousef Ahmadi, whose official statements about the kidnapping and murder of the S. Korean hostages last month prompted Rusty to ask:

May I ask the simple question: WHAT THE HELL IS QARI YOUSUF AHMADI DOING STILL BREATHING AIR? WE KNOW WHERE HE IS. WE KNOW WHO HE IS. WE KNOW WHAT HE IS. PLEASE, FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY, SEND HIM TO MEET HIS 72 VIRGINS!

Well, no virgins for Ahmadi, at least not yet. Via The Times of India:

KABUL: The main spokesman for the extremist Taliban movement, Yousuf Ahmadi, has been arrested in southern Afghanistan, the interior ministry said on Thursday.

Ahmadi was seized with his brother on Wednesday in volatile Helmand province, where the Taliban are in control of several districts, the ministry said in a statement.

Ahmadi regularly contacted the international and Afghan media from secret locations about Taliban engagements in southern Afghanistan, saying he was speaking on behalf of the extremist movement.

He was the main port of call for the media during the recent crisis over the Taliban's abduction of 21 South Korean evangelical workers in southern Afghanistan in July.

Two of the hostages were killed and the rest were released in August. He is the third Taliban spokesman to have been arrested since the hardline Islamic movement began their insurgency after being toppled from government by US-led forces in late 2001.

The only downside to this is that some poor aid worker is going to get kidnapped now to try to free him. Afghan President Hamid Karzai took a lot of heat for releasing 5 Taliban prisoners in exchange for Italian journalist Daniele Mastrogiacomo in March, and refused to consider a prisoner swap in the case of the Koreans. Let's hope he sticks to that resolve, and that Ahmadi is never heard from again.

Update by Rusty: Break out the champagne!

I actually have some personal history with this guy, and so do some of you. You may remember my "Messin' with the Taliban" post in which I gave out Qari Yousef Mohammed "Ahmadi's" satellite phone number. Or this post in which I published his e-mail.

You also may recall that Ahmadi had several websites up, all of which were taken down after our call to action and help from you, the readers, and from other friends of the Jawa. Ahmadi even issued a public statement about our efforts, calling us "the enemies of Allah"

Mwuahahahahaaaa!!!

In fact, I even got an e-mail message from Ahmadi's webmaster, Adil Watanmal (aka "Murchal") challenging me to come after him. Thanks to your help, he got served.

A very good day at the Jawa!

UPDATE: Downer alert?

CP:

A man claiming to be the Taliban spokesman that Afghan authorities said they have captured called The Associated Press on Thursday to deny it.

"I've not been arrested," the spokesman Qari Yousef Ahmadi told the AP, disputing an Interior Ministry statement that he had been captured in southern Helmand province on Wednesday...

Another Taliban spokesman, Zabiullah Mujahid, had also contacted another AP reporter to dispute the Interior Ministry report, saying Ahmadi was free.

If true, we have his phone number. Why doesn't someone ice this piece of filth? Notice, that his friend Zabiullah Mujahid also called in. I have his phone number and e-mail too!

Won't someone rid us of these pesky Taliban?

Red Cross Workers Kidnapped in Afghanistan

It just never ends. Via the Miami Herald:

KABUL, Afghanistan --Two foreign Red Cross workers who aided in freeing a group of South Korean hostages last month have been abducted in Afghanistan as they were trying to help secure the release of a German captive, Afghan officials said Thursday.

The foreigners and two Afghan staffers failed to return to their base Wednesday evening after a mission to pick up the German man and fellow Afghan hostages in central Wardak province.

Ewaz Muslimyar, the police chief of Wardak province, said the two foreign aid workers were kidnapped in Salar district. It was not immediately clear who was behind the abductions.

"They weren't actually involved in the negotiations, but there was supposed to be an imminent release of a German hostage and five Afghans accompanying him," said Claudia McGoldrick, an International Committee of the Red Cross spokeswoman, from the group's Geneva headquarters.

"From what we understand, that operation was never completed for reasons that we can't confirm at the moment. We can't confirm if whatever has happened to them is connected to that episode."

She said the aid agency is in "direct contact with all parties to the conflict to determine exactly what has happened." She declined to give further details about the workers' identities "for security reasons."

Prayers for the safety of the aid workers and of Rudolf Blechschmidt, the kidnapped engineer. This must be devastating news for his family. Pray that they will be comforted for now, and that they will be blessed with his safe return soon.

The Naomi Wolf Challenge

I know I'm a little late to this one, but I was just thinking about preening puerile parrots today, and Naomi Wolf just popped in there.

Anyway, I want her to take what I call the 'Naomi Wolf challenge.' It's a fun game that in reality any leftist can play. Here it is:

Stop writing...stop speaking...stop writing books...and don't communicate a word until you've been thrown in jail for dissenting or for something you've written or said in the past. Just stop - prove you're the political martyr we all know you want to be, and put your money where you mouth is. Go to prison for 'being brave in the face of fascism,' and then write your books and do your book tours. Go ahead. Prove you're really as 'oppressed' as you make yourself out to be. Prove that yo don't have the right to speak out and make your voice heard. I dare you.

Don't write or say a damn thing unless the next word you publish or speak in public is from a prison cell for speaking out against the government.

Maybe then I'll listen to what you have to say. Maybe then what you write will have some meaning. Until then, you're just pissing up a rope.

Take the challenge. Fem up.

What bias?

Free advice for David Shyster: If you're going to attempt 'gotcha,' at least get the basic facts straight. An apology is owed - on air, prime time, loud and clear.

Otherwise you end up on MSNBC as a loudmouthed idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

I wonder if he'll make the Worst Person in the World segment for this cheap shot that backfired. I mean, this is a guy who reported breathlessly and with certiainty that Karl Rove had been indicted last summer, and nobody seems to care at MSNBC. Some "journalism" they've got going on over there.

Condition of Wounded Italian Hostage Worsens

Prayers are needed for the kidnapped Italian soldier who was shot during a rescue operation Monday. Via AP:

Premier Romano Prodi defended the decision to stage a risky raid to free two Italian intelligence operatives taken hostage in Afghanistan after the condition of one of the men deteriorated Tuesday.

"We are very worried" about the fate of the operative, Prodi said from New York, speaking on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.

The intelligence operative has been put on a respirator to help him breathe, Defense Minister Arturo Parisi said in a statement. The man has been in a NATO-run hospital in Afghanistan since being rescued Monday.

The two Italians, who worked for the SISMI intelligence service, disappeared along with their two Afghan colleagues Saturday. They were freed Monday by Italian commandos aided by other NATO forces and aircraft after the kidnappers began to move their hostages.

Italian special forces ambushed the convoy, sparking a gunbattle that killed at least nine of the kidnappers. Both Italians were injured, the other one not seriously.

It is always risky to try to rescue hostages, and as this case shows, the safety of those being rescued is not guaranteed. That is part of what makes kidnapping such a detestable practice, and why it is such a popular asymmetric strategy to use against Western societies. Hopefully the Italians won't let this incident paralyze themselves into inaction or submission to the terrorists.
